What happens when a heart breaks?
Does it shatter into thousands of shards of glass?
Or does it rust as does wintered brass?
Does it bleed and wilt at first,
Or does it congeal until it finally bursts?
Can it be melted and heated as is sand,
And if made whole, will it again stand?
What happens when a heart breaks?
What happens when a heart breaks?
Do emotions always loosen streams,
Can one only see broken dreams?
As porcelain that wears and cracks,
Will it ever gain its old semblance back?
Consumed in the silent fire of rage,
Can a heart learn to flip the page?
What happens when a heart breaks?
What happens when she’s all I see?
What happens when I lose sight of me?
What happens when hope dissipates?
What happens when we concede to fate?
The answers, ever, confound this mind,
It eludes me still, no peace I find.
This pain, it seems, is much to take,
And all I know is my heart still breaks.
