In sunlight, when the sky still smiled; Idyllic dreams, loving desire. The heart dives deep, lovingly unbridled. Hell to skeptics and romance deniers. Zealous love; that sits like a cloud, it hovers there and barks aloud. New Zealand coasts, the story transpires. A legend told, at tomorrow’s campfires.
It was like Peter and Wendy, but it wasn’t the same. A ploy from the shadows, a yearning from rain. Two fires crackled but they cackled in pain. It was a thing precious, but love wasn’t its name. Call it a romance, a Fitzgeraldian affair, a failed play at love, but my heart lingered there.
Drawn to the hope that was evinced by her eyes—Roped into knots, her words sweet lullabies. Her touch exaltation, her smile divine. A stream of wavy memories, but rivers can dry. Clouds can cast shadows, and shadow casts doubt. My Buttons was loosened, the strings plucked and pulled out.
Plucked like the wrong chord, a wretch in our songs; redeem me, my Buttons, doesn’t love forgive wrongs? Then came the darkness, a coast without sun. The heavens were broken, unconditional undone. Words emptied like blanks, hollowed and still hollow tipped, they peppered my soul, but it was just a movement of lips.
You said the word endless and a future foretold; and I took for granted, what I thought was true gold. Shadows cast over, we lost us our sun! I was marooned in darkness, while you left me to run. Written in fears, blue paint on the walls, you hid behind tears, you bluffed while I called.
I see it now clearly, as clear as my reflection sees me. You left me such signs, but I didn’t want to believe. Blinded by love, enraptured in faith, my patience rewarded with a manipulative face. Denial begotten, but begotten to begone, still I see shoreline, a new wind with fresh sun.
My ship remains anchored, staked and true to the last; take my peace and forgiveness, there’s no more to be asked. No more to be said, no more to be had, take care my once Buttons, true love would have last. I gave you all, once lover; now I give it all to the past.
